he second step of the Essential Breath™ program deals with two very important gases in the body, carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO). Most likely you've heard of these two gases from high school biology and they were explained as nasty even harmful waste products of the body. The truth is we could not live for more than a few minutes without these essential gases.
The body is an amazing thing with electrical and chemical reactions going on every second of our life. Life would not be possible without these reactions. There are four important chemical reactions that involve CO2 and NO and keep us alive and healthy. The four chemical reactions are:
Creating an ideal level of CO2 and NO in the body is the goal of Step 2 of the Essential Breath™ program. In Step 2, we work on the breathing center of the brain, the medulla oblongata, and teach it that higher levels of CO2 and NO are OK. It does take several weeks to a couple of months of work, but the medulla can be trained that these gases are just fine. How we breathe really matters, especially for CO2 and NO retention.
